Salette Latas on the IssuesSalette knows that unique shops and restaurants would make Oro Valley a destination. She will be a strong voice on the Council for attracting these kinds of businesses. Her experience will allow her to work with the business community to make sure that small businesses can prosper. Salette will be the leading advocate on the Council for greater choice in both employment and recreational opportunities. As we look towards employment build-out, Salette will fight for a diversified job base so that Oro Valley's young people can afford to raise their families here. Salette opposes tax increases because she knows that right now many of Oro Valley's residents are squeezed financially by high gas prices, healthcare costs, state and federal taxes. She knows that effective planning will allow Oro Valley to prosper without tax increases. Salette opposes new discount superstores. She will not support subsidizing large, out-of-state chains coming to Oro Valley at the expense of residents and locally-owned businesses. Salette supports the responsible use of incentives to attract sustainable businesses to Oro Valley, but only if they benefit the entire community. She knows that Oro Valley's residents want unique and varied retail and employment choices and she will lead the effort to bring them to Oro Valley. Salette opposes giveaways to large, out-of-town corporations at the expense of taxpayers. She commends the state of Arizona for mandating that cities must prove the need for business tax incentives before they can be used. | |
