About SaletteSalette was born in Newport News, Virginia, the second of five children. Her father was a career Air Force flight engineer whose unit rotated in and out of Thailand during the Vietnam war. Salette moved to southern Arizona in 1979. She worked her way through the University of Arizona as a waitress, convenience store clerk, and tutor.
Salette later worked as a radio announcer and news reporter, and still later as a technical writer for an FAA contractor, a major semiconductor manufacurer, and a major medical software firm here in Tucson. Salette served as a court-appointed special advocate in Wayne County, North Carolina, investigating cases of child abuse and neglect and representing the children's best interests in court. She later was elected as vice president and then president of two different neighborhood associations, and served as the public relations director for a local high school PTSA. She earned a master's degree in Technical Communication Management from Mercer University School of Engineering in Macon, Georgia. Finally, Salette was able to settle in Oro Valley, and she served as president of the largest animal rescue organization in southern Arizona. She completed the Oro Valley Citizen Planning Institute in 2006, and currently serves as the elected Vice Chair of the Oro Valley Historic Preservation Commission.
